Description

This smooth, shiny icing is perfect for decorating sugar cookies — quick-drying, easy to color, and sets beautifully for festive designs and detail work.

Ingredients

2 cups powdered sugar

¼ cup corn syrup

12 tablespoons milk or water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or almond, lemon, or peppermint extract)

Gel food coloring (optional)

Instructions

In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and corn syrup.

Add 1 tablespoon of milk or water and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

Adjust consistency by adding more milk (for thinner icing) or more powdered sugar (for thicker icing).

If using, divide icing into bowls and stir in gel food coloring.

Apply to cookies using a piping bag or spoon.

Let cookies sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes, or until icing is set.

Notes

For detailed piping, use a stiffer icing and thinner tip.

Allow cookies to dry uncovered in a single layer to avoid smudging.

Stir refrigerated icing thoroughly before reuse.
