Description

The ultimate custard-soaked, skillet-cooked brioche French toast that’s soft, golden, and perfect for a cozy breakfast or weekend brunch.

Ingredients

6 slices brioche bread (preferably day-old)

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

Butter or oil for frying

Optional toppings: powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.

Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.

Dip each slice of brioche into the custard, soaking each side for 10–15 seconds. Let excess drip off.

Place on the skillet and cook each side for 2–3 minutes until golden and cooked through. Adjust heat if necessary.

Repeat with remaining slices, adding butter as needed between batches.

Serve warm with your favorite toppings like syrup, powdered sugar, or berries.

Notes

For added flavor, mix in orange zest or almond extract.

Challah or Texas toast are great substitutes for brioche.

Make it a dessert by stuffing slices with Nutella or cream cheese.

Turn it into a baked casserole by layering slices in a dish and baking with the custard.

Reheat leftovers in a skillet or toaster oven for best texture.
