Description
Sweet, sticky, and irresistibly crunchy—these Caramel Apple Slices are the ultimate fall treat. Easier to eat than whole apples and perfect for parties, potlucks, or cozy nights in.
Ingredients
For the Apple Base:
4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
1 tablespoon (15ml) lemon juice
For the Caramel Coating:
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
½ cup (120ml) heavy cream, slightly warmed
4 tablespoons (60g) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon sea salt
Optional Toppings:
¼ cup (45g) chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds, etc.)
2 tablespoons (30g) mini chocolate chips
Crushed candy, toffee bits, sprinkles, or melted chocolate drizzle (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the Apples:
Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Slice into 8–10 wedges, removing the core. Toss slices with lemon juice to prevent browning.
Make the Caramel:
In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar while stirring constantly until it becomes a deep amber color. Add butter and stir until melted. Slowly whisk in the warm cream, then add vanilla and sea salt. Stir until smooth and remove from heat.
Dip the Slices:
Let caramel cool slightly (2–3 minutes). Dip each apple slice about ¾ of the way into the caramel and place on a parchment-lined tray.
Add Toppings:
While caramel is still tacky, sprinkle on desired toppings (nuts, chocolate chips, etc.).
Set and Serve:
Chill the tray in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes until caramel firms up. Serve on a platter or skewered for easy handling.
Notes
Use tart apples for the best flavor contrast.
Dry apples thoroughly to help the caramel stick.
Let caramel cool a bit before dipping to avoid sliding.
Create a topping station for a fun, interactive dessert setup.
