Description
These caramel pecan bars feature a rich, gooey filling atop a buttery shortbread crust. Perfect for holidays, potlucks, or a sweet indulgence anytime.
Ingredients
For the crust:
1½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup powdered sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
For the caramel layer:
½ cup brown sugar, packed
½ cup heavy cream
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1½ cups pecans, chopped
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line or grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
Mix flour and powdered sugar in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Press into pan.
Bake crust 12–15 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool slightly.
Meanwhile, heat brown sugar, heavy cream, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until dissolved and simmering.
Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and chopped pecans.
Pour caramel-pecan mixture over baked crust. Spread evenly.
Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbling and set.
Cool completely in pan before slicing into bars.
Notes
Add cinnamon or nutmeg for a spiced version.
Substitute walnuts or mixed nuts as desired.
Double the recipe for a 9×13-inch pan.
