Description

These caramel pecan bars feature a rich, gooey filling atop a buttery shortbread crust. Perfect for holidays, potlucks, or a sweet indulgence anytime.

Ingredients

For the crust:

1½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup powdered sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

For the caramel layer:

½ cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup heavy cream

¼ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1½ cups pecans, chopped

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line or grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.

Mix flour and powdered sugar in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Press into pan.

Bake crust 12–15 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool slightly.

Meanwhile, heat brown sugar, heavy cream, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until dissolved and simmering.

Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and chopped pecans.

Pour caramel-pecan mixture over baked crust. Spread evenly.

Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbling and set.

Cool completely in pan before slicing into bars.

Notes

Add cinnamon or nutmeg for a spiced version.

Substitute walnuts or mixed nuts as desired.

Double the recipe for a 9×13-inch pan.
