Description
This comforting chicken sausage and broccoli orzo recipe is packed with flavor and ready in just 30 minutes. A hearty one-pot meal perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
2 cups orzo pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
2 cups broccoli florets
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook for 5–7 minutes until browned.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add broccoli florets and cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly softened.
Pour in orzo, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
Remove from heat and stir in grated Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
For a creamier texture, stir in 1/4 cup of heavy cream just before serving.
Feel free to substitute chicken sausage with turkey sausage or plant-based sausage.
Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
