Description
This rich and velvety chocolate sauce is a true Southern staple—perfect for pouring over warm biscuits, pancakes, or waffles for an indulgent breakfast.
Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup Hershey’s cocoa powder
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon softened butter
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, and flour. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until smooth and lump-free.
Pour the mixture into a saucepan and cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently.
Once it starts to boil, reduce heat to medium and continue stirring for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract and softened butter until fully melted and smooth.
Serve warm over biscuits, pancakes, waffles, or even ice cream.
Notes
Adjust sweetness by using 3/4 cup sugar for a less sweet version.
Add a pinch of salt or cinnamon for extra depth.
Use whole milk for the creamiest texture.
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days—reheat gently before serving.
Great as a dessert topping or drizzle for cakes, too!
