Description

This spooky baked mac and cheese features melty mozzarella ghosts, cheddar, and creamy sauce for the perfect Halloween dinner. Easy, festive, and kid-approved!

Ingredients

8 oz elbow macaroni (uncooked)

2 tbsp butter

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan

Salt and pepper, to taste

6 slices mozzarella cheese (cut into ghost shapes)

Black sesame seeds or black peppercorns (for ghost eyes)

Olive oil or butter (to grease baking dish)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta:
Boil macaroni in salted water until just tender. Drain and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce:
In a saucepan, melt butter. Add flour and whisk for 1 minute. Slowly add milk, whisking constantly until thickened (3–4 minutes).

Add the Cheese:
Remove from heat. Stir in cheddar and Parmesan until fully melted. Season with salt and pepper.

Combine with Pasta:
Stir cooked pasta into the cheese sauce until evenly coated.

Prepare Baking Dish:
Grease dish with olive oil or butter. Pour in the mac and cheese and smooth the top.

Add Mozzarella Ghosts:
Place mozzarella ghost slices on top. Add black sesame seeds or peppercorns for eyes.

Bake:
Bake uncovered at 375°F for 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and lightly golden.

Serve:
Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the spooky ghost topping!

Notes

Don’t overcook the pasta—remember it will bake too.

If you don’t have ghost cutters, cut mozzarella slices by hand or use small round cookie cutters.

Mozzarella should go on just before baking, not earlier.

Reheat with a splash of milk to keep it creamy.

Freeze leftovers after baking; reheat covered at 350°F.
