Description
This spooky twist on classic grilled cheese is perfect for Halloween! With melted cheddar, buttery sourdough, and the option for creepy colors and fun shapes, it’s a hit with kids and adults.
Ingredients
4 slices sourdough bread
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Optional: Black or green food coloring (for spooky effect)
Instructions
Preheat Skillet: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Prepare the Bread: Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread and sprinkle with garlic powder for flavor.
Assemble Sandwiches: Place 2 slices of bread in the skillet, buttered side down. Layer grated cheese on top. If using food coloring, mix it into the cheese before layering.
Top and Grill: Place remaining bread slices on top, buttered side up. Grill for 3–4 minutes per side, or until bread is golden brown and cheese is fully melted.
Cut and Serve: Let sandwiches cool slightly, then use Halloween-shaped cookie cutters to cut into festive shapes. Serve warm.
Notes
Tip for Cheese Coloring: Add just a drop or two of gel food coloring to maintain cheese texture.
Serving Idea: Serve with tomato soup “blood” for a spooky dip!
Kid-Friendly: Let kids help cut the shapes once cooled.
Works great with mozzarella, gouda, or a cheese blend too.
