Description

These spooky Halloween pizza skulls are made with homemade dough, tomato sauce, mozzarella, and creative toppings like olives and mushrooms. Perfect for Halloween parties or fun family dinners!

Ingredients

For the Dough (makes 6 skulls):

500 g pizza flour (or type 550 flour)

300 g water

1 packet dry yeast

12 g salt + 30 g hot water

Olive oil (a dash)

For the Toppings:

Tomato sauce

Shaved mozzarella

Salami

Sliced black olives

Mushrooms (cut into small pieces for “teeth”)

Pimientos (for nose and mouth decoration)

Fresh Garnish (optional):

Cherry tomatoes, halved

Fresh basil leaves

Instructions

Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine flour and yeast. Add 300 g water and mix roughly. Cover and let rest in a warm place for 30 minutes.

Add Salt & Oil:
Dissolve the salt in 30 g hot water, let it cool briefly, and add it to the dough with a dash of olive oil. Knead until smooth.

Cold Proof:
Lightly flour the dough, cover, and refrigerate overnight.

Shape the Skulls:
The next day, divide dough into 6 pieces. Shape each into a round, then flatten and form into skull shapes on floured surface or baking paper.

Add Toppings:
Spread each with tomato sauce, sprinkle with mozzarella, and decorate with salami, olives, mushrooms, and pimientos to create spooky faces.

Bake:
Preheat oven to maximum temperature. Bake pizzas on a preheated pizza stone or baking sheet for about 10 minutes until crispy.

Garnish & Serve:
Serve hot with fresh basil and cherry tomatoes for extra color and flavor.

Notes

For extra crispiness, use a pizza stone or steel.

Get creative with toppings—use different vegetables or cheeses for variety.

Great make-ahead dough: prep it the night before and simply shape and bake on Halloween day.

Can be made kid-friendly with milder toppings or turned spooky with extra details like edible eyes.
