Description

A creamy, crunchy classic made with Campbell’s mushroom soup, tender green beans, and crispy fried onions. This is the ultimate holiday or weeknight side everyone loves.

Ingredients

Casserole

1/2 cup milk (whole milk works best for creaminess)

1/4 tsp ground black pepper

1 tsp soy sauce (adds depth without overpowering)

1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup (Campbell’s recommended)

4 cups green beans (fresh, frozen, or canned; thawed if frozen)

Topping

1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions (French’s brand recommended; divided)

Instructions

Prep the Beans:

If using frozen green beans, thaw and drain them.

For fresh green beans, trim, cut into 2-inch pieces, blanch briefly in salted boiling water, and drain.

If using canned green beans, simply drain well.

Preheat Oven:

Set your oven (or air fryer) to 350°F.

Mix Base:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and soy sauce until smooth.

Combine Ingredients:

Fold in green beans, 2/3 cup of fried onions, and black pepper. Gently mix to coat everything evenly without breaking up the onions.

Bake Initial Layer:

Transfer the mixture to a 9×9-inch baking dish.

Bake for 25 minutes (or 10 minutes in air fryer) until hot and bubbly.

Top and Finish Baking:

Stir the casserole gently, then top with the remaining 1/3 cup of fried onions.

Return to the oven for 5 minutes (or 2 minutes in air fryer) until the topping is golden and crisp.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a dash of garlic powder or a sprinkle of grated cheese before the final bake.

This dish can be assembled ahead and baked just before serving—ideal for holidays or potlucks.

To make it vegetarian, ensure your soup and fried onions are meat-free.
