Description

These creepy brain-shaped treats are made with gooey marshmallows, crispy cereal, and red food coloring for a realistic effect—perfect for Halloween parties and spooky snack tables.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

6 tbsp unsalted butter – creates a smooth base

6 cups regular marshmallows – primary binding agent

4 cups Rice Krispies cereal – provides the signature crunch

½ tsp salt – enhances sweetness

Red food coloring – as needed, for creepy “brain” coloring

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, bring ½ cup water to a gentle boil. Place a heatproof bowl over it to create a bain-marie.

Add butter and marshmallows to the bowl and slowly melt, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and glossy.

Remove from heat and whisk in salt and 2–3 drops of red food coloring.

Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispies in a large bowl. Stir quickly to coat all the cereal.

Lightly oil your hands. Grab handfuls of the mixture and shape into oval brain-like forms.

Use a butter knife to carve a groove down the center of each “brain.”

Dip a toothpick in red food coloring and draw vein-like lines for a realistic, gory effect.

Let cool at room temperature and set for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For added texture, mix in mini chocolate chips to mimic neurons.

Swap part of the butter with peanut butter for a nutty twist.

Try orange food coloring for a pumpkin-themed variation.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days.

For best results, shape while the mixture is still slightly warm and pliable.
