Description

These soft and fluffy buttermilk donut bars are baked, not fried, and drizzled with a sweet cinnamon glaze. A perfect treat for breakfast, snack time, or dessert.

Ingredients

For the bars:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 cup buttermilk

2 large eggs

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

12 tablespoons milk or buttermilk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of ground cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

In a separate bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla until well combined.

Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.

Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan.

Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

For glaze: whisk powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon until pourable.

Drizzle glaze over slightly warm bars. Spread evenly and let set 15 minutes.

Slice into bars and serve.

Notes

Add clove or allspice for more spice.

Lemon zest in the glaze gives a citrus twist.

Sprinkle nuts over glaze for texture.

Use a vinegar-milk combo if buttermilk isn’t available.
