Description

This creamy and smoky spicy honey BBQ sausage pasta is made in one skillet, featuring tender sausage, honey BBQ sauce, and a touch of heat for a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

12 oz pasta (penne, rigatoni, or shells)

1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into rounds

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

½ cup honey BBQ sauce

2 tablespoons honey

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)

½ cup chicken broth (or pasta cooking water)

½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook pasta in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain, reserving ½ cup pasta water.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown sausage slices 4–5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.

In the same skillet, sauté onion until softened (2–3 minutes), then add garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking 30 seconds until fragrant.

Stir in honey BBQ sauce and honey, scraping up browned bits.

Add heavy cream and chicken broth (or reserved pasta water). Simmer 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.

Return sausage and pasta to skillet, toss to coat in sauce.

Stir in cheddar cheese if using until melted and smooth.

Season with salt and pepper; garnish with parsley and serve.

Notes

Add extra red pepper flakes or hot sauce for more heat.

Swap heavy cream for half-and-half or non-dairy milk for a lighter dish.

Use turkey or chicken sausage as leaner alternatives.

Top with toasted breadcrumbs or crispy bacon for texture.

Incorporate vegetables like bell peppers, spinach, or zucchini for added nutrition.
