Description
Juicy ground beef, sautéed peppers, and gooey provolone come together in this skillet version of a classic Philly sandwich.
Ingredients
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and black pepper, to taste
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Dijon mustard
½ cup beef broth
4 soft hamburger buns, split and toasted
1 cup shredded provolone cheese (or American cheese)
Instructions
In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until browned (6–8 minutes). Drain excess fat.
Add bell peppers and onion; cook 4–5 minutes until softened. Add garlic; cook 1 minute more.
Stir in Worcestershire, mustard, beef broth, salt, and pepper. Simmer 2–3 minutes to thicken.
Reduce heat and sprinkle cheese over the beef. Cover to melt (1–2 minutes).
Spoon mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.
Notes
Swap provolone for mozzarella, pepper jack, or Swiss.
Add mushrooms for a more classic Philly twist.
Stir in cream cheese for extra richness.
Serve in lettuce wraps for a low-carb version.
