Description
This biscuit bake is loaded with savory sausage and creamy gravy, then oven-baked to perfection—simple ingredients, big Southern flavor.
Ingredients
For the Sausage Gravy:
1 lb ground sausage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp ground sage (optional)
For the Pie:
1 package refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks.
Make the gravy: Sprinkle flour over cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for about 2 minutes. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and sage (if using).
Assemble the pie: Place the biscuit dough in a single layer at the bottom of the baking dish. Pour sausage gravy over the biscuits, making sure they’re well covered.
Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, until the biscuits are golden brown.
Serve: Let the pie cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes to the gravy.
For added richness, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the gravy before baking.
Sautéed mushrooms or onions can be added to the sausage mixture for extra flavor.
Great use of leftover sausage gravy!
