Description
A one-pan comfort food favorite, loaded with beef, cabbage, and rice simmered in a rich tomato sauce and optionally topped with melted cheese.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 head cabbage, chopped
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
3/4 cup uncooked rice
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup shredded cheese (optional – mozzarella or cheddar)
Instructions
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks.
Add chopped onion and garlic; cook until onion is translucent.
Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, uncooked rice, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a simmer and stir in chopped cabbage.
Cover and let simmer, stirring occasionally, until rice and cabbage are tender (about 25–30 minutes).
If using cheese, sprinkle over the top in the final minutes of cooking, allowing it to melt before serving.
Notes
Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
For a low-carb option, use cauliflower rice instead of white rice.
Add crushed red pepper or hot sauce for extra heat.
This dish freezes well and reheats beautifully.
